10 steps to getting your home upgraded
Get Started and Connect with your Retrofit Coach
Fill in our short registration form to confirm your initial eligibility. This will connect you with a Retrofit Coach who will be available at no cost to help you throughout the process.
Complete the full program application
It will take 5-10 business days to process your application.
Receive notice that you are ready to proceed
You and your property have qualified for the program. You have 75 days to plan your project.
Get an energy assessment from an Energy Advisor
These assessments (NRCan EnerGuide) determine your home’s energy rating and provide you with tailored recommendations for the most cost-effective upgrades for your specific home. They are provided by a third party, not your Retrofit Coach.
Collect contractor quotes and submit a funding request form
Your Retrofit Coach can help you select upgrades and contractors and complete your form. Allow up to 10 business days to process your funding request.
Sign the Property Owner Agreement with Dufferin County
This will allow you to receive 50% of project costs to help you cover the up-front costs of the renovation. Allow 2-4 weeks to receive your initial payment.
Get your upgrades installed
You have 12 months to complete your upgrades. Remember to keep all of your receipts. Expenses without receipts can’t be financed.
See what you’ve saved
Complete a post-upgrade home energy assessment to confirm your energy savings.
Submit a Project Completion Report
This includes your receipts and will allow you to receive the remainder of your project costs. Allow 2-4 weeks to receive your final payment.
Repayment
Repay your loan through your property taxes. Any incentives you qualify for will be deducted from the amount to be repaid. You can choose to pay off the balance owing in a lump sum at any point without penalty.
